- USB to serial Adapter / Converter -
with PDA support (driver) particularly for Toshiba e33/35x, 74/75x.
For
use with PC with USB port (but no Serial port) to connect to serial devices such
as PDA for serial hotsync, mobile phone (data cable required) for data access,
and GPS (serial cable required) for mapping software and data exchange.
Using
the popular Prolific PL-2303 USB to Serial Bridge
Controller (used by most makes of USB>Serial
Converter), it is compatible with all recent
OS (WinXP, 2K, ME, 98) and most makes of PC.
We
have made this specially small and short which is ideal for Laptop use, and for
Toshiba e740 through our special USB
Host Adapter to connect to various GPS. This is probably the only USB>Serial
adapter that supports Toshiba PPC as newer controllers
do not have the drivers.
If you only need one for PC and
will not need to use with PPC you can buy the newer/smaller/lighter/cheaper model
USB2SX.

When I connect USB2S
with a GPS, Windows detects Microsoft Ballpoint device then the mouse cursor on
screen becaomes erratic, what happens and what should I do? This
can happen sometimes with cables using PL-2303 controller, particularly if you
connect all cables before you switch on computer, or you connect USB2S
and GPS cable and then insert USB2S into USB
port. Solution: 1. Disconnect USB2S
and GPS cables. 2. Reboot computer 3. Connect ONLY USB2S
to USB port 4. Connect GPS cable It
should now work normally.
I connect a GPS with
PC serial cable to USB2S, everything seems to be OK but the GPS software cannot
detect the GPS? USB>Serial Converter driver installs a virtual
port AFTER all physical com port in the PC (if any), internal modem, AND
othe virtual com ports (such as mobile phone modems) you may have installed. So
the com port installed may be 3, or 4, or 7,8 etc. Most GPS software can only
be configured to use com 1 to 4, some even can only use com 1. So you have to
re-assign (re-arrange) the com port that USB2S
uses, and the one that your GPS software uses so that they match. For further
